I've learned ALOT in Photo 1, so it's very hard to just name one thing. I guess one major thing that I learned is that patience and hard work pays off! It takes awhile in the developing process and sometimes many tries to get your photo just right, but with alot of patience, practice and hard work the end result is always worth it! I plan on continuing with Photography next semester as well, since that is my passion and major! I hope that I can carry with me the skills I have learned, so that one day I can become the best photographer I can be and share my passion with others. But whatever I end up doing in the future I plan on continuing to express myself through my photography and capturing those exciting moments in life as they happen!

I learned the basics of photography: shooting techniques, processing film, and developing pictures. I also learned that viewing the world through a lens opens your eyes to see the beauty in everything. If you were to capture the simple things that you see as you go about your daily routine it could become a beautiful picture. I haven't decided if I will take another photo class but I plan to apply what I've learned to improve my photography skills on my own.

I’ve learned a lot in photo 1 beginning with the different styles of photography that can be found among a group of people. We all have a different outlook on life and that can be seen through the lens of a camera. The lines and angles that appear in everyday life can create magnificent photos when captured at the right place and the right time. I plan to use my knowledge from photo 1 to continue pushing myself to create unique images and portray the world as I see it through different images.

In Jason Miller's Photo 1 class I learned so much, I did things I had never done before, and had so much fun too. I learned how to shoot good photographs and experiment with shutter speed and aperture. I learned how to develop the negatives and print proof sheets of them. I also learned how to develop prints and mount them onto matte board. I really enjoyed taking this class and making prints.

Someday, I would love to go to Africa. It has been my dream for many years to go there, to take photographs of all the wildlife, and then write a book to go along with my many images.

This class has taught me so much and I believe it has made my dream that much closer.

"Art, not beauty, is in the eye of the onlooker, behold it!" Jessica Maxwell

What I learned:

I learned way too much to begin to write it in one page, much less in one class period. The most useful thing I learned was how to take a simple object and capture its beauty and then print it "just right" so that its beauty is defined. It was really exciting to see how a few more seconds of exposure can change an image, but more exciting when you end up with the perfect image.

What I plan to do with what I've learned:

I plan on working more with moving objects and experimenting with the bulb setting.

My great struggle is capturing the image that I see in my mind. Fortunately, I'm not a quitter and I will never stop trying!

I haven't, in my 23 years of life, settled on one specific goal. If I had to choose a goal pertaining to photography, I guess it would be to never stop experimenting with images, and always to keep an intriguing though playful quality or style to my photographs.

Not only did I learn how to use a camera other than a digital, but I learned how to take better quality (both technically and conceptually) photographs, I learned all of the technical skills required to develop negatives, prints, and how to properly mount prints onto matte board. I feel that throughout this course I have grown as an artist and will be able to bring a more critical eye to my other art work.

I would like to take more photography classes, but I'm not sure if I can until after I graduate. I will continue to take photos with my film camera and develop them myself because I have so much control over what happens in the darkroom.

I will also be able to use the skills I learned in this class to photograph my ceramics. I am able to make pieces that reflect what I'm going through in my life, and similar to photography, I have a great amount of control, but there is still an unpredictable side to both ceramics and photography. You may not always get what you want, but often, what comes out is far better for its mistakes.

In photography class there were a lot of things that enhanced my knowledge of the craft. Just the experience of coming to this class opened my eyes to what photography could offer. I learned how to bracket, in different ways, the shots I took. In class, I also learned how to mix chemicals efficiently. Things I thought would be difficult and out of the question at first, now are as simple to me as second nature. I'm not sure where photography will play a role in my life, but I am appreciative of having the skill. Being in the art field, it probably won't be too long before I use what I've learned from this class. My occupation and passion is being a barber.

In Photography 1 I learned how to use photographs to capture moments in time, but to do that in an interesting way. For example, I learned how to crop the photos within the camera in a way that would be interesting to the viewer. Also, I have learned the importance of arranging photos in such a way as to tell an interesting story. I have learned that photography is more than simply taking pictures; it's about carefully developing the film, creating successful prints, and learning from mistakes made... and I have learned that there will be many made. I also learned how to spell camera.

In the future, I plan to continue finding interesting moments in life to capture with film. I will always have a working camera at hand.

As of right now, I'm a full-time student at the U of M and I work part-time at the university, as well as an employee for safety and health.

My majors are Art and Spanish, as I plan to be a translator for the Foreign Mission Board.

In Photo One I learned how to pay attention to the shadows in a photo, how to frame a shot so that my focused subject stands out, and I also learned the basics of film developing and printing. I plan to use photography in my future as a way to take photos of friends, family, and events in a way that the photo is artistic and display worthy.

My current occupation is being a secretary, however, I will be graduating on Dec. 13, 2008, with hopes of a new career as an event coordinator.

What I've Learned in Photo 1:

In Jason Miller's photo 1 class I learned how to roll and develop film, make proof sheets, and make actual prints. I also learned lots of things about lighting and how to bracket when taking photographs.

How I plan to use photography in the future:

I am a photography major and in the future I hope to become a very successful photographer, maybe even open my own business.

In Photo 1 I finally got to learn how the dark room works. Knowing how to print my own photos with a timer has really helped me when I expose my film when I am out taking photos. I will always use photography almost every day of my life, and I hope to always use film. A photo can reflect exactly what I need to say. It is my escape. Te real world is a lot different from how I remember things. If I see a photo of myself when I was little, I might get a strange feeling. What I see in those pictures of me is something completely different than how I remembered that time. When I take photos I'm trying to remember exactly how I thought it happened. It might be selfish, but one of the reasons I take pictures is solely for me, although I still want to effect people with my photography. I guess if I can't effect other people, then there are more important things.

What I got out of photography class:

I learned more about myself in photography and realized that photography is the passion that I want to pursue in my life.

What I plan to do with photography in the future:
I plan to pursue a career as a photographer. I changed my major to photography and I should graduate in about 2 and 1/2 years. I will then enroll in a photography masters program.

My greatest passion in life is photography. I love finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. I try to see the beauty in everything.

Thanks so much. Audrey
